'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful effort from distance, and the defender immediately hammered in the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to celebrate, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This sealed an unbelievable turnaround given the team had trailed 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory earned a next round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that far out," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that maturation for his team and nation, performing well for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was chilly," he comments, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm hoping to be the next one out of the minibus and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would mix with followers on London's Central line after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
